"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6
When we think about our child's education, we tend to only look at it from the side of being book smart. Of course, this is of high importance because they will need the reading, writing and mathematical skills to be able to function in the world around them. We want to make sure we are giving them the best skills possible to succeed in their future endeavors.
When thinking about true education, there are other characteristics that we should be aware of. Teaching our children to practice temperance, godliness, love for others and of course love to God should be of equal importance to us as parents.
When choosing a school for your child, all of these things should be taken into consideration so that your child will not only get an education fit for this world, but also for the world to come. Christian education is one part book education and one-part biblical education. This combination will educate the children for the future as well as teach them how to love their fellow men as well as the importance of loving God. Like Proverbs says, train the child in the right direction, and it will be something that will stick with them all their lives. In a world filled with violence and crime, there is a high probability that out children will be exposed to many of these things at an early age, so instilling a lifestyle that leads them to rely on God while they are young is of extreme importance.
Daily, we strive to incorporate Bible classes and daily prayer into our learning routine to make sure that there is a good balance in their education. But it does not and should not stop there. You as a parent are a co-educator with your child's school. As a parent you will be the biggest role model. How you speak and behave in the home will be the example you set for your children moving forward. They will carry that example wherever they go and often time mimic it in their own lives. This should make us aware that the way we live our lives will either be a positive or negative influence on our children and can ultimately shape their future.
Parents and teachers are to work together to achieve the highest possible level of education for your children. Education is not only the teachers responsibly, but equally rests on the parents as well to make sure that positive values taught at home transfer to school and vice versa.
As we continue on with this school year that has been presented with constant challenges, it is important that we work together to create the best possible learning environment for each and every student that attends Crestview. True education will be a well-balanced combination of general book knowledge, biblical knowledge, parental cooperation with teachers, teachers connecting to parents as well showing by example a love for God and a love for their fellow students. When this is done, I believe we will reach a higher level of education that will prepare each student for the future.
